How do I make a reservation?

You can check for availability and make a reservation online, email us, or call us at 518-696-2912. A check or credit card is needed to confirm your stay. We prefer that you call.

Where should we buy our groceries?

Although there is a very limited grocery store in Downtown Stony Creek we are very pleased to announce that we have a BRAND NEW PRICECHOPPER grocery store in Warrensburg, only 1/2 hour away. They should have everything you need including Fresh fish and a Lobster tank. They will steam the Lobsters for you.

Jacobs & Toney

Meat Store of the North! On Main Street – Warrensburg. I highly suggest that you buy your meat here. You can buy excellent steaks, meat, lamb, chicken, sausage, deli food, etc. here. In fact, people drive for hours to come to this store. They butcher all their own meat. Meat is excellent and prices are really reasonable. The best restaurants in the area buy their meat here. They also have all kinds of salads, potato salads, 3 bean salads, etc. they also have HOME MADE breads, sub rolls and bulky rolls.

Oscars Smokehouse

Right up the road from Jacobs & Toney, meat store on Main Street, Warrensburg. Excellent meats, smoked jerky, Vermont cheese, Maple Syrup, all kinds of specialty yummy cheeses. Rachel Ray loves this place and frequents it often. In business since 1930′s. They ship their products all over the world.

There are also a number of local Farmer’s Markets nearby. You can buy TRUE ORGANIC FREE RANGE EGGS at the Lazy J farm just down the road from us. (Ask for a free tour of the farm).

If you are looking for a really big supermarket, there is a very large Pricechopper, Hannafords, Aldi, in Queensbury and of course there is a super Walmart there also.

What time is check in time?

Check In Time – 4:00 PM Important: due to our rural location you must not arrive after 9:00 pm or the lodge will be closed.

Please inspect the chalet carefully and go over the inventory list so that you will be familiar and be able to leave the chalet in the same condition as received.

Do not take food into the living room, bedrooms, or bathrooms. Food is to be eaten in kitchen and dining room only.

We recycle…Go Green

Please rinse all glass, plastic, and metal and place in recycle bin in chalet. Garbage will be picked up daily at approximately 11:00 AM. Please leave garbage in tied bag at front door or come to the lodge. We do not provide daily maid service. We are an ECO FRIENDLY establishment.

Towels

There will be an extra surcharge for any extra towels requested.

For stays of 1 week, 2 towels per person will be provided, midweek there will be an exchange for new towels. For stays of less than 3 nights, only 1 towel per person will be provided. Do not bring towels to the beach or outdoors.

Please do not bring our beautiful Denali blankets outside by the fire. Any damage to them could cost you a great deal of money. Approximately $300.00 each.

What time is check out?

You must check out by 11:00 AM – Late check outs are unavailable due to new guests arriving the same day. You must advise the lodge 1/2 hour prior to check out. A full inspection will be performed to ensure that the chalet is cleaned and left in the Same Condition As When Received.

Cleaning

The cleaning fee takes care of providing you with clean, sanitized, and ironed sheets and clean towels and daily trash removal. Also all laundering of towels, sheets, blankets. Please put all soiled towels in bathtub. Cleaning fee does not take care of cleaning your dishes. All dishes must be washed, dried, and put away in cupboards.Daily maid service is not included. All cleaning supplies can be found under the kitchen sink, Soft Scrub, bathroom cleaning products, Windex, SOS pads, and there is a vacuum in pantry closet. If you are missing any cleaning supplies please inform Lodge and we will supply them to you. Stove must be cleaned including saucers under electrical burners.

If you have any leftover food that you do not wish to take with you then you may leave it in the refrigerator, after you first clean the refrigerator. We do not believe in wasting food you can choose to donate it to those less fortunate.

Tubs and toilets must be cleaned. We are trying to keep costs down for YOU. Minimum cleaning fee is for linens and daily trash removal. Any damage to carpeting, furniture, mattresses, bedding, etc. with the exception of normal wear and tear will be subtracted from your security deposit, if there are additional charges they will be added to your credit card. We have provided luxury Denali Bedspreads/Hudson Bay Blankets for your use. If you wish to purchase these please inquire at the lodge. Denali bedspreads are $300.00 each. $36.00 each for shams, Hudson Bay Blankets $479.00 each. Please do not bring any food or drinks into the bedroom causing any spills or damage to the blankets or it will be charged to your credit card.

We have other guests that will be checking in shortly after you and we have a very limited amount of time to prepare the chalets for these arriving guests. There will be no boat use on Saturday Morning by Bear Country Lodge due to preparation for our next guests.

Wood Stoves

Please do not operate wood stoves. Campfire wood is not to be brought into the building. Do not leave fires unattended. Do not start fire with any chemicals. Only newspaper, kindling, and wood. Wood is available for sale at the lodge.

Towels & Sheets

Please remove all sheets from beds and leave in a bundle near front door. Please leave all towels and face cloths in bathtub. Fold blankets and leave at the foot of bed. Do not remake beds with bedspreads.

What time does the Main Lodge Open/Close?

The Main Lodge opens at 10:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM, with the exception of check in day. Check in guests must arrive by 9:00 pm at the latest. Please respect the owner’s privacy. The lodge is for check in/check out only, not to be used by chalet guests. The lodge is for the sole use of the owner only.

What if I have to cancel my reservation? What is your policy?

Cancellations last minute prevent us from renting the room/chalet to another customer. We are located in a rural location in the mountains and therefore we advise you to book well in advance. Due to only having 4 chalets, we fill up quickly.Our Cancellation Policy Is Strict – If you have to cancel, you must do so at least 45 days prior to your arrival date. You may then choose to apply the deposit towards another date in the future. If you cancel less than 45 days prior to your arrival, no refunds will be made, no exceptions. Also if you have to depart earlier than expected, you will be responsible for all booked nights. **Cancellation Insurance is available at booking – please ask.

We have some spectacular weather here in the Adirondacks, however, we cannot be responsible for rainy days, inclement weather which could produce tornados, hurricanes, hail storms, occasional power outages, natural nuisances, therefore, no refund checks apply. You are in the Adirondack Park therefore need to be aware of animals, insects, bees, which we have no control over. If you any health conditions or allergic reactions that you need to be concerned with then please make sure you have medication with you. Please be careful. The new Hudson Headwater health center is the nearest health facility which is 30 minutes away. Glens Falls Hospital is 45 minutes away.

Reservation Deposit

If you make a reservation within 60 days prior to arrival, full payment is required. Advanced reservations require 50% down and the balance will be charged to your credit card 60 days prior to your arrival.

What should I bring with me? And… what people tend to forget

Summer: Casual clothing is best. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sneakers, boat shoes, hiking shoes, Tevas, flashlight, First aid Kit, HDMI cable connector for your computer to plug into HD TV, Phone charger.Nights in the Adirondacks Mountains can be cool so make sure you pack a sweater, flannel shirt or jacket. Don’t forget your bathing suit for excellent swimming in the lake. Please bring your own beach towel, sun tan lotion, sun glasses, beach chairs, swim gear, visors, hats, and beach toys. You may bring your own kayak, canoes, sunfish sailboats, floats, and life jackets. No motor boats allowed on Harrisburg Lake.

Restaurants

Life in the Adirondacks is very relaxed, even the finest restaurants welcome casual attire.

Fishing

Fishing is great on Harrisburg Lake. All fishing supplies including fishing poles, lures, worms, tackle boxes, etc. can be purchased at our store in the lodge. If you are over 16 years old, you must have a current NY state fishing license. Under 16, no license is required.

Fall and Winter

Bring warm clothes, jackets, sweaters, flannel shirts, jeans, winter silks, long underwear, boots, hats, mittens. Snow shoes, cross country skis, downhill skis.

Is smoking permitted?

No, We are a NON-SMOKING facility. Smoking is prohibited inside or on the decks of all buildings. Smoking off premises is permitted. We ask that you be respectful of the other guests. Evidence of any smoking will result in a $500.00 fee added to your credit card.

Are pets allowed?

Sorry, but no pets are allowed. We have tried this in the past and unfortunately not everyone has well behaved pets and this caused problems for our other guests.

How many people are allowed in the chalets?

The chalets comfortably sleep 6 people. They have 1 1/2 baths or 2 baths each. We do not like to exceed that number of people per chalet.

Is there a massage therapist available?

Yes, there are several local massage therapists in the area that will come right to the Bear Country Lodge. Please call us so we can reserve a time for you. If you wish for a full day at the spa, massage, facial, aromatherapy, haircut, manicure/pedicure, lunch, world famous Sagamore Resort (www.thesagamore.com) is only a 35 minute scenic ride away.

What food to bring or what people tend to forget

Bring lots of food, you are going to be hungry after hiking, swimming, boating, horseback riding, rafting, and breathing this beautiful mountain air.We have Keurig and Mr. Coffee makers, so make sure to bring coffee or single cup containers. Other items are coffee filters, sugar, creamer, salt, pepper, paper towels, napkins, paper plates, paper cups, aluminum foil, ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish and other condiments. We have ice cube trays, however, you might want to pick up a bag of ice.

Campfires

No campfires are to be lit before 7:00 pm and all campfires must be put out by midnight. Do not leave fires unattended. Propane Gas for your grill is available for $20.00 tank. Campfire wood is available for sale for $10.00 per bundle at the main lodge. If you need instructions please ask. Make sure you do this ahead of time as the main lodge closes at 8:00 pm.

Quiet Rules

Please respect our other guests. Our guests come to Bear Country Lodge for peace and quiet. No loud noise, foul language, screaming, loud music of any kind. no boom boxes. No ATVs allowed.

Security Deposit

Your credit card will be charged $275.00 as a security deposit. This amount will be refunded to your card within 10 days after checkout PROVIDING that the chalet is returned to us in the same condition upon which it was received. Any missing, damaged, broken, or stolen property will be deducted from security deposit. Any evidence of smoking will result in a $500.00 fine. if there is any evidence of damage the owner will be allowed more than 10 days to access amount to be subtracted from security deposit or to add additional charges.

 

Important: Bears

We live in the Adirondack Park. We live in bear country! Do not leave any garbage outside, in or around your car. Do not leave any food inside uncovered or unwrapped on counter in chalet. Gas grills must be cleaned including drip pan after using. Keep grill heated for several minutes after cooking to burn off residue. Odors of food linger in the air and attract bears.

Lock screen doors and front and back doors at night.
